Topic Three: Rhinoceros, Part One-Research Assignment #1
I have more of an affinity to Dürer's woodcuts because of the dimension it holds through exaggerated features. While the basic characteristics of the rhinoceros are recognizable in both, Dürer's use of similarly repeated patterns keep me more visually interested than Burgkmair's. While Burgkmair's does seem more earthy with the gentle feather like sections of the line work, it consequently seems very dream like and distant from reality to me.
I thought the tower depiction of the rhinoceros to be most amusing because it takes the rhinoceros from the expected environment of being grounded.
